Louisiana State University Press, 1980. First edition, first printing of 2,500. Good condition. Ex-library with usual markings and stamps present.
Original dust jacket illustrated by Ed Lindlof is a true first state with stars present in the nighttime sky on front panel, rear panel, and spine. This effect was deleted at the start of the second printing by then Production Manager Joanna Hill. Hill also "intensified" the light blue ink (PMS 278) at the same time. This boost in color explains why first state examples fade from blue to beige/white while subsequent states retain most of the blue color. The fading on first state jackets is inevitable, regardless of how the book is stored.
Dust jacket is unclipped and in Fair or better condition with glue residue present at bottom of spine. Pulitzer Prize winner for 1981. Item #310487
